So this is my first post/thread and I guess I should introduce myself, as well as demonize myself. I wrote a fan fic sorta a long time back which in fact is pretty much verbatim of a dream I had.
I was dating this gal who made me read the books. We had a deal actually, I read the trilogy of Hunger Games and she reads Starship Troopers. Two polar opposites actually but where as I fulfilled my end of the bargain, she didn't get past a chapter. Anyways, I digress. So I got dragged to the movie before that by a different woman and I absolutely hated it. Read the books and hated the main character even more which brings me to the situation of my dream.
See I was in love with my ex who has the same mentality as the main character Katniss. The same schemes and selfish behaviors and quirks which I really saw reading the book especially when you can hear her inner turmoil. In fact, coincidentally, her name is... Kat. Plus the love triangle was extremely similar with her (Kat), her friend Ed (Gale) and well you get the point. So shortly after reading the trilogy and still communicating with her, I wrote this out in an email. After receiving much praise from her on the descriptiveness it downward spiraled and we don't talk anymore. So here is what I came out with and in the next post I'll cut and paste of the email and of course, leaving out intimate discussions of feelings and what what nots. The ending is what I saw would be a fitting ending that I saw in my minds eye. Of course this is more of a description than a story but that could easily be changed and since I may never start another thread, after I'll explain why I had a dislike of the story.

As memories flash in my mind I am suddenly whisked away to a familiar setting. It this a dream? Is it a memory? I'm not certain...
I’m standing next to these cinderblock buildings. They are homes and small, it looks like a very poor area. Is this my home? The smell of burning trash wafts in the cold breeze. I look to the sky and it’s an ashen gray and the ambience looks like some dark force is drawing the color everything. Everything is drab, no bright colors, just grays, greens from grass and distant pine trees. There is a small lake near the outcropping of buildings and it reflects the cold gray sky.

So I’m standing there with nothing to my name and no one close to me in my life. Today is “the day” and the time is coming soon. I don’t know exactly what’s going on but I’ve been chosen for something. It could be for the “reaping” or for an execution for a crime but whatever it is, it’s not good and I’m never coming back.

Standing alone, I look up and you’re standing on top of one of the buildings, an extreme contrast to the drab scenery and I’m drawn to you. I walk up to you, you look a lot like when we were sweethearts but your skin is pale, your hair a blaze of red emanating radiance as if it was lit up by the sun even though it cannot break the dull cold overcast. Your eyes, they aren’t your natural color of a soft brown, instead are a set of stunningly bright blue eyes, ablaze like sapphires and appearing to glow. I'm so confused. Is this real?

We shared some quick words, you’re mostly quiet, I tell you that I’m leaving and may not be back, you nod solemnly and say, “I know…” I take you in my arms and kiss your forehead; I look into your icy cold blue eyes and tell you, “I love you,” as you just look back at me. I follow up saying, “Why don’t you try it on, just to see how it fits?” Referring to those three words and you shake your head no. I sigh and we say our good byes as the time has come for me to leave. I spot a black car, an extreme contrast to the poverty and dilapidated environment we were living in and it passes me by. Slightly hurt from our goodbye I call after the limo, shouting my name to them and suddenly WANTING to leave as if it were my now sacred duty, the car turns and picks me up to take me to my uncertain fate.
Is this a dream? Is it a mixture of reality and fantasy?I’m given instructions from a large man as we are ferried away and I look out my window to look for you only you’re walking away….

Cold and painful reality sets in as searing pain is piercing my chest. Locked on with another combatant, my blade inches from his throat, his axe however, finding its mark. My visions blurs in anger and pain as he pushes me back and sweeps his blade down, cleaving a deep wound through my body. I drop... bright crimson splashed about, I hear the sound of feet speeding off into the dense brush as my vision locks on the cooling red blood... the red... your hair... I mouth your name in my final breath....

The glorious loss of another tribute causes the capital to go crazy but back at his home district, his fellow denizens watch in horror the camera fixated on his dying moments, his lips calling her name. She sees this, turns away, and walks off...

hey 12-ites,:)

how are we? TIME had an article last summer about authors and how they
feel about fanfiction. many like it because they feel flattered that readers
like their work enough to put their own spins on it. of course, there are
those who don't like it because of "copyright violation" (even though the
author plainly says the original source is the owner and he/she is merely
playing with it.) here are a few who are in favor and those who oppose

In Favor

Stephen King
JK Rowling (Harry Potter)
Anne McCafferey (The Dragons of Pern)

in fact, I think JK or someone has a "Fanfiction Dos and Don'ts"

Opposed

Anne Rice (Interview With a Vampire)
Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game)
George RR Martin (The Sandkings, Game of Thrones)

Card said he would actually sue, although he ironically is listed as one
of the authors who actually writes fanfiction (hypocritical much?)

I was wondering where Suzanne falls with this. is she cool with various
fan stories about Panem or not? just curious.:untroubled:
